September 2016 Traffic up nearly 12 Percent

All five HIA airlines posted September increases led by Allegiant (76%), American (17%) and Air Canada (12%). So far in 2016, 894,273 passengers have accessed the region via the airport, which is an increase of 0.4% compared to 2015.

Non-Stop Service to Pittsburgh Begins Monday

Today, nearly two million people a year use the PA Turnpike to drive between the Harrisburg and Pittsburgh regions. Beginning Monday, there will once again be an option to fly!

For the first time since 2008, the Harrisburg and Pittsburgh regions will be connected by air as Southern Airways Express begins daily nonstop service to Pittsburgh International Airport on Monday, October 31, 2016. “We are thrilled to be connected with Pittsburgh once again,” said Timothy Edwards, Executive Director, Harrisburg International Airport. “Southern’s service has great appeal to business travelers who need to make a quick trip to/from Pittsburgh. Flying gives them time to relax and be productive rather than spending more than 7 hours driving to/from Pittsburgh round trip.”

Non-Stop Service to Franklin Begins Tuesday

For the first time ever, there will be nonstop air service between Harrisburg and Northwestern Pennsylvania as Southern Airways Express will begin weekday nonstop service to/from Venango Regional Airport on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. Venango Regional Airport is located about 2 miles from Franklin, and about 10 miles from Oil City, PA, in the heart of the natural gas region of Pennsylvania. Located along Route 322, Southern’s nonstop service to Franklin provides much faster and easier access to locations throughout northwestern Pennsylvania saving hours of driving in each direction.

With rental cars available at the airport, locations throughout Venango, Clarion, Mercer and Crawford Counties are now just a short drive away from the airport. In fact, downtown Erie, normally about a five hour drive from Harrisburg, is just a 75 minute drive from the Franklin Airport. As a result, getting to Erie from Harrisburg now can done in about three hours versus the five hours prior to Southern’s new service.

Additionally, Venango Regional Airport is in very close proximity to some large colleges in Western Pennsylvania. Grove City College (22.5 miles), Slippery Rock University (26.5 miles), Allegheny College (29.6 miles), and Clarion University (31.3 miles) are a short drive to the airport, allowing for local students from Cumberland, Dauphin, York, Lancaster and Lebanon Counties a quicker way home for holidays and other events.
